Strut Your Stuff

And, it’s FREE.

For the first time ever, Cherry Creek North is kicking off Fashion Week in a big way! On the evening of September 6th, style lovers will whet their appetites of the latest fall fashions at in-store events throughout Cherry Creek North, followed by a runway fashion show on Fillmore Plaza featuring Cherry Creek North boutiques.

Cherry Creek North stores are pulling out all the stops in preparation for this big night in fashion by planning fabulous in-store events from 6 – 8pm. Guests can expect everything from trunk shows to mini fashion shows to complimentary services, giveaways, and more. Nearly 40 stores are participating and event details can be found at CherryCreekNorth.com.

Immediately following the in-store events, there will be a spectacular runway fashion show at 9pm on Fillmore Plaza. The show will feature 11 boutiques, which will give the audience a taste of the diverse collection of fashion offerings available in Cherry Creek North. The boutiques featured in this year’s show will be: Alicia the Boutique, Eccentricity, Felice Bridal, Garbarini, Lawrence Covell, Mariel, SOL… Store of Lingerie, and Marks Lloyd Furs. Jewelry is being provided by Oster Jewelers, and there will also be a surprise children’s component provided by Little Me’s and Little Feet. Each of these stores will walk the 88 foot runway showcasing their fall and winter looks that can be found in stores this September!

This event benefits Goodwill Industries of Denver’s programs that outfit individuals for success. As you’re walking through Cherry Creek North between now and September 6th, you may notice some life-size blue, “Success Silhouettes” that represent the tremendous stories of six individuals that have been greatly impacted by the phenomenal work that Goodwill has done in our community. We are proud to partner with them on this event and help drive awareness of their programs.

Our official partners are: 303 Magazine, FirstBank, Little Black Dress Vodka, Little Black Dress Wine, Great Divide, Piatti, and Cuppy Cakes of Cherry Creek. Guest should be sure to strut their stuff on the 303 Magazine red carpet for a photo opportunity on Fillmore Plaza from 6pm – 9pm.

The entire event is free and open to anyone; however there will be a limited number of reserved VIP tickets for sale for the fashion show. VIP tickets include (depending on level purchased): Reserved runway seat, access to the VIP party before the show (complimentary cocktails and hors d’oeuvres), free parking, and a goodie bag. Additional details for Cherry Creek North’s celebration of fashion are being finalized and will be announced as September 6th approaches!

16th Street Mall – a Denver destination

Image

The 16th Street Mall, is not in Miami, not in NYC – just Denver.  It’s where plodding horse and carriages move up and down the mall in sequence with the free RTD buses, sharing the historic & modern, concrete-tiled downtown main street with a bustle of people and cyclists who expertly dodge in and out of the buses, know their way around the big horses and slackers. It’s a happy gathering for the homeless (itiswhatitis), the elite, suburban teenagers on their way to Elitche’s and happy dogs socializing on the street.

Cure your summer heat attacks with evening concerts, public art, food carts (Casa Cuba my fav), fyi: carts still selling illegal knockoff purses just off the mall ( shhhh), watch the permanent chess boards where games are in session all day, all night. Stick your nose into Lannie’s Clock Tower Cabaret for rip roaring entertaining burlesque or if you’re lucky catch Lannie herself for the best live entertainment in all of Denver. Relax at Red Square Euro Bistro for fig, dill and apricot infused vodka (& many more flavors), or the Hard Rock Cafe, Paramount Theater, the Rock Bottom Brewery (watch for their on the mall Friday concerts – Jakarta last Friday), Overland Sheep Company, and the most outrageous food overload ever at the Cheesecake Factory.  Get on down there for a virtual plethora of entertainment, music and people watching.

I Heart Denver.

New York City BBQ in Denver – must be a mistake

The Big Apple comes to the Mile High City when acclaimed New York City restaurateur Danny Meyer brings the Big Denver Barbecue Block Party to Skyline Park Aug. 4 and 5.

Meyer, whose cadre of restaurants includes Union Square Cafe, Gramercy Tavern, The Modern and Shake Shack, will send chefs from Blue Smoke, his barbecue spot, along with eight other pitmasters representing barbecue joints from across the country to the Denver event.

Pitmasters include Kenny Callaghan from Blue Smoke; Patrick Martin of Martin’s Bar-B-Que Joint in Nashville, Tenn.; Tommy Houston from Checkered Pig in Danville, Va.; Frank Ostini of The Hitching Post II in Buelton, Calif.; Jake Linzinmeierfrom Telluride Ski Resort and Drew Robinson of Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Q in Northfield and Aurora.

“When we first learned that Danny Meyer was exploring the idea of expanding the Big Apple BBQ event to an additional city, we wanted to see Denver be that city so we actively competed to demonstrate that Denver could handle the event and that we are a great city for the event,” said Joe Vostrejs, chief operating officer of Larimer Associates.  “Now we have the event coming to Skyline Park in August, I am thrilled to not only have such a nationally recognized name behind it, but to also have such a distinctive event in our city.  I am confident it will be a huge success for Denver and I cannot wait to see what it will do for the Downtown Denver food scene!”

FYI: I am posting this from www.Blacktie-colorado.com, Penny Parker, because I want to make sure all my peeps are with me for this.

Little Rock’s The Pit BBQ will always remain #1 in my heart.

Dear Friends, Artists and Art Fans,

It was great meeting some of you at the Art Students League Summer Art Market on Sunday! I’m running TWO big shows this summer that offer fun and unique opportunities for artists!

Both shows are INDOORS and allow you to rent a booth for the weekend and/or enter work into the open call gallery!

The second annual Denver County Fair offers a quirky new take on the traditional county fair. Last year, we drew 25,000 attendees, and got LOADS of national press – including TWO articles in the New York Times!

Denver County Fair is owned and operated by Tracy Weil and me – two movers and shakers in Denver’s art scene. We’ve got some big-name blue ribbon judges, and once again, Mark Penner-Howell is managing the Art Pavilion! Kym Bloom, owner/manager of Kanon Collective on Santa Fe Drive, is our new Art Competition manager!

Changes this year:  New Registration System means faster check-in and shorter lines! Also, the Art Pavilion is right next to our newest, most-talked about area – The Geek Pavilion! We’re the only county fair in the world that has one of those!  🙂
